James Thom QC was called to the Bar in 1974 and took silk in 2003. His particular areas of specialisation include: property advice and litigation, including development contract disputes, mortgage and subrogation claims, claims in nuisance or negligence for damage to land and buildings by flood, pollution and the like, disputes over site boundaries and easements and claims involving proprietary estoppel and constructive trust; landlord and tenant disputes, including dilapidations claims, rent reviews, lease renewals and service charge disputes; professional negligence in the property context; and "Chancery Commercial" litigation including contractual disputes, civil fraud claims and freezing orders. His clients include insurance companies, property developers, property companies, trading companies, local authorities and individuals He has appeared in the House of Lords and was called to the Bar of St Vincent and the Grenadines in 1997. As a Queen's Counsel he was called to the Bar of the BVI in 2005, where he has appeared in international commercial cases, and became an Attorney of the Turks and Caicos pro hac vice in 2006.
