Ross Crail
Call: 1986

Since being called to the Bar in 1986, Ross Crail has acquired experience of litigation and advisory work in a wide range of chancery and commercial matters, including insolvency, company law, commercial contractual disputes, professional negligence, trusts and settlements.

Her practice is now principally focused on real property disputes, concerning for example easements, restrictive covenants, adverse possession, boundary disputes, sale of land, and landlord and tenant issues. She also handles cases involving trusts of land; construction of wills; administration and distribution of estates; appointment, removal, and replacement of personal representatives; contentious probate and family provision claims.

Ross has a particular interest in the law of highways, common land, town and village greens, and access to the countryside, advising and acting for local authorities, landowners, members of the public, and other interested organisations. In this connection she has gained considerable experience of public inquiries and related litigation, particularly judicial review and statutory appeal procedures. She has been involved in recent high profile cases in these fields, and has been instructed to act as a non-statutory inspector for the purposes of town or village green registration applications.

Ross regularly contributes articles to the Rights of Way Law Review, and is a member of its editorial board. She is also one of the editors of The Law of Freedom of Information, published by Oxford University Press.
