Shelley White

Shelley specialises in insolvency but her practice also includes commercial disputes and property litigation. In 2009-10 Shelley spent several months in the Cayman Islands primarily representing the Trustee of Bernard L. Madoff Securities Investments LLC (in SIPA liquidation) and working on the SPhinX liquidations. Her recent cases in the UK include acting for Kingston Council in the Royal Borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames v Phoenix and Others (March 2009) regarding possession of Ravens Ait island in the River Thames, appearing for Barclays Bank in the unreported case of L Morgan & Co v Jenkins O'Dowd & Barth (November 2008) and advising in the case of Angel Solicitors v Jenkins O'Dowd & Barth (2009) ([2009] 1 WLR 1220; [2009] PNLR 19; (2009) NPC 9) in which the L Morgan case was considered. She has particular experience in litigation involving constructive trusts, having been junior Counsel in Cox v Jones [2004] All ER (D) 281 (Jun), a highly publicised constructive trust case in the High Court, and also in Kilcarne Holdings Ltd v Targetfollow (Birmingham) Ltd in both the High Court and the Court of Appeal (see [2004] All ER (D) 132 (Nov) and [2005] EWCA Civ 1355). Shelley also has experience of residential and commercial landlord and tenant matters, trusts, Inheritance Act claims, partnership, charities, breach of contract, restitution, local government and judicial review including acting for local authorities in homelessness appeals (Shelley appeared both at first instance and in the Court of Appeal in the case of Osseily v Westminster City Council [2007] All ER (D) 64 (Oct)). Shelley was included in Management Today’s 2008-9 list of 35 under 35; the "Definitive List of Britain's Female Business Talent" which recognises young women who are "tipped as ones to watch for the future". In 2007 Shelley was a keynote speaker at the Inaugural International Women’s Day celebration in London. She has since been appointed to be an Enterprise UK Ambassador through the "Enterprise UK" campaign which works to inspire young entrepreneurs by promoting positive role models.
