Rodney Stewart Smith

The members of New Square Chambers are deeply saddened to announce the death one of its most distinguished members, Rodney Stewart Smith.

Rodney was called to the Bar in 1964. He joined New Square in 1965 and was in practice until a few weeks before his death, a period of 57 years. A lawyer of exceptional ability, Rodney was an inspiration, a mentor, and a friend to everyone in chambers.  He was enormously generous with his time, served twice as Head of Chambers, and had a lasting impact on the development of Chambers, supporting the careers of many present and past members and staff.

He was a kind and humble man. We will all miss him greatly.

Our thoughts and love are with Rodney’s family as they come to terms with their very sad and sudden loss.
