Head of Clerking l Phil Reeves

Phil Reeves is our Head of Clerking.

He is responsible for the smooth running of Chambers. His key role is in ensuring  outstanding levels of service from both barristers and the clerking team. Phil has over 25 years’ clerking experience. He has always focused on Chancery and Commercial work having first commenced his career with a specialist Company set in 1988.

Deputy Head of Clerking l Michelle Greene

Michelle joined New Square Chambers in 2002 after successfully completing a BA Honours Degree at Oxford Brookes University.
In addition to diary and case management, her duties include maintaining client relationships, as well as fee negotiation, allocation of work, practice and business development.

As Deputy Head of Clerking Michelle also assists Phil in the effective running of the clerk’s room.

Practice Manager l Gary Collins

Gary joined New Square Chambers as a Practice Manager in January 2016. He is responsible for diary management, negotiating fees and practice development.
Gary has obtained a wealth of experience having commenced work as a Clerk in 2003. During his time he has received a distinction in BTEC Advanced Award in Chambers Administration and is a member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks.

Practice Manager l Charlie Sherwood

Charlie joined Chambers in January 2015 as a Junior Practice Manager. He was promoted to Practice Manager in January 2018. His duties include; diary management, fee negotiation, case allocation, case listing, liaising with clients and the overall development of members' practices.

Junior Practice Manager l James Hamilton-Flack

James assists the other Practice Managers and members with daily administrative duties both within and outside Chambers. These include: lodging bundles, preparing court documents and assisting Counsel as needed.
James joined Chambers in November 2014 after completion of his his GCSEs.

Junior Practice Manager l Callum Gordon

Callum assists the other Practice Managers and members with daily administrative duties both within and outside Chambers. These include: lodging bundles, preparing court documents and assisting Counsel as needed. Callum joined Chambers in July 2018

Business Development

Business Development Director l John Campbell

John heads up Chambers Business Development. Prior to joining Chambers John was a legal Director in a national firm responsible for delivering the firm’s business development strategy.

John is committed to ensuring that Chambers continues to meet the needs of clients. He has developed a Client Care Programme based on his 20 years experience as a solicitor at partner/director level to deliver this goal. John is an experienced relationship builder and understands the importance and the benefits of building good relationships.

Business Development Assistant l Sarah Laughton

Sarah's role is to provide administrative support to the Business Development Director and Head of Clerking in strategic planning of business development to promote Chambers and its members. Sarah joined Chambers in June 2017.

Management & Administration

Chambers Manager l Kerry McLean

Kerry McLean is Chambers Manager and is responsible for the administration and financial management of Chambers.  Following a career in the army Kerry worked in the City where prior to joining Chambers he was finance director of the Insurance Institute.  

Fees Manager l Sam Hutchins

Sam is Chambers' main contact for fees and credit control and is happy to assist on all queries regarding private fees, CFA and Legal Aid matters. Sam joined Chambers in July 2017.

Receptionist  l Michelle Parker

Michelle’s primary role in Chambers is front of house and client care. She manages the reception area delivering friendly, efficient client service and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all of our guests. Michelle also manages the conference rooms ensuring meetings run smoothly and that members and clients requirements are met.

Michelle joined Chambers in December 2011.  Michelle has previously worked for a number of Law Firms in the City.  

Secretary l Elvine Simms

Elvine assists members of Chambers with the production of legal documents. Elvine also acts as cover for front of house when needed and provides a welcoming atmosphere for members, clients and guests.

Elvine joined New Square Chambers in 2007. 

Administrative Assistant l Ronald Booth

Ron maintains Chambers’ offices and facilities.
He joined Chambers in September 2014 after working as a facilities manager for Aon Ltd for 27 years.
