10 Dec 2020

Alexander Learmonth TEP of New Square Chambers has won the Advocate of the Year category at the STEP 2020/21 Private Client Awards, which took place in a virtual ceremony last night.

Hosted by STEP, the worldwide professional association for those advising families across generations, the Awards are highly regarded as a celebration of excellence across the private client world. All entries go through a rigorous, practitioner-led judging process to select the best in the industry.

The Advocate of the Year category had a strong set of finalists, with Alexander Learmonth beating Dakis Hagen QC, Robert Pearce QC TEP, Eason Rajah QC TEP, and Shân Warnock-Smith QC TEP to the prize.

The Judges said: ‘Alexander, a leading authority in his field, is held in tremendous respect and admiration by his peers, and described as an outstanding advocate whose approachability, responsiveness and intellect shine through.’

STEP Chief Executive Mark Walley said:

‘We couldn’t come together in person this year, but we felt that it was especially important to celebrate all the best of the industry in such times. It is testimony to the resilience and adaptability of this profession that we had so many entries from firms and individuals globally who have all been doing amazing things. Huge congratulations to all our finalists and winners.’

STEP’s charity partner for the first time this year was the World Literacy Foundation. Donations from entrants and on the night raised over GBP60,000 for the charity, which helps to lift children out of poverty and transform their lives through literacy and access to educational resources.

The occasion was sponsored by Katten Muchin Rosenman, Rathbones, Royal Bank of Canada and Tilney Smith & Williamson. Full details of the winners are available here:
