Property Team Update

25th March 2020

The challenges posed by Corona Virus are being felt across business sectors, but nowhere more acutely than in the sphere of property management, transactions and landlord and tenant interactions. New Square would like to reassure you that our specialist Property and Landlord and Tenant Teams are here to help with all issues faced by your individual and business clients in these uncertain times. We recognise that areas of particular concern are:

  • The proposed changes under the forthcoming Coronavirus Act 2020 to commercial and residential leases;
  • Commercial and domestic rent arrears;
  • Mortgage payments and deferrals;
  • Breaches of leasehold covenants;
  • Tenancy renewals and extensions;
  • Possession proceedings;
  • The effect of transaction non-completion upon chains in the purchase and sale of land.

Applications to suspend warrants of possession and proprietary injunctions are to be afforded priority and hearings are to be conducted remotely wherever this is practically achievable across all courts and tribunals. All members of our Property Team are fully set up to conduct remote hearings, deal with urgent business and to provide advice and support in responding to ever changing circumstances.

Please do not hesitate to contact our Clerking team to discuss any issues your clients may be facing.

With Kind Regards,
New Square Chambers
